Description

Product Type

Tick growth regulator for beef cattle

Description and Composition

ACATAK PO 025 is a ready-to-use pour-on formulation containing 25 g of fluazuron per liter

Properties

Fluazuron, the active ingredient of ACATAK, is an acarine growth regulator belonging to the group of benzoyl-phenyl-ureas (BPUs). Like all BPUs, fluazuron interferes with the chitin synthesis. Treated immature ticks are unable to moult to the next stage, and no larvae will hatch from eggs laid by treated females.

Due to its specific mode of action, ACATAK is specially suited for the control of one-host ticks of the genus Boophilus. In situations where cattle serve as unique or major host for immature and adult stages of multihost ticks, the repeated use of ACATAK may also lead to a substantial reduction of the multihost tick population.

Indications

ACATAK is a ready-to-use pour-on formulation for the control of the cattle tick Boophilus spp. In specific situations, it may also help to reduce substantially multi-host tick populations.

Dosage and administration

The recommended dose rate is

  • 1.5 mg fluazuron/kg (6 ml of ACATAK /100 kg liveweight) for the control of Boophilus microplus in Australia.
  • 2.5 mg fluazuron /kg (10 ml of ACATAK /100 kg liveweight) for the control of Boophilus microplus and B. decoloratus in Latin America and Africa, as well as for use against multihost ticks

Frequency of application will depend on tick species and local conditions. Usually, treatments can be spread 7 to 12 weeks apart.

When used strategically according to label or local guidelines, the number of treatments will be 2 to 4 per year.

Withdrawal periods

Withdrawal periods according to national registrations.

Special Precautions and Warnings
