Oral antibiotic intended for preventive and therapeutic in feed medication in pigs
Description and Composition
Four premixes are available for in-feed application:
- ECONOR 0.5% Premix contains 0.532 g valnemulin hydrochloride per 100g
- ECONOR 1% Premix contains 1.065 g valnemulin hydrochloride per 100g
- ECONOR 10% Premix contains 10.65 g valnemulin hydrochloride per 100g
- ECONOR 50% Micro Granules contains 53.25 g valnemulin hydrochloride per 100g
Properties
Valnemulin is a bacteriostatic agent, belonging to the group of pleuromutilins. It has a broad spectrum of activity but is particularly active against Brachyspira, Lawsonia and Mycoplasma species. Valnemulin belongs to a category of antibiotics which is not used in human medicine.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of enzootic pneumonia (Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae) infections. It has a synergistic activity with tetracyclines against other primary (Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Bordetella bronchiseptica) and secondary (Pasteurella multocida) respiratory pathogens.
ECONOR is particularly indicated for the control, prevention and treatment of swine dysentery (Brachyspira hyodysenteriae), porcine colonic spirochaetosis (B.pilosicoli) and porcine proliferative enteropathy (Lawsonia intracellularis).

The fixed inclusion levels of ECONOR are effective in the prevention and treatment of clinical disease. Higher dosages or longer duration of treatment may be necessary for complete elimination of infection. The medicated feed should be fed as the sole ration daily for a minimum of 7 days and up to 4 weeks or until signs of disease disappear.
Special Precautions and Warnings
Pigs should not receive products containing ionophores like salinomycin, monensin and narasin, during or at least 5 days before or after treatment with valnemulin.
When mixing ECONOR and handling the final feed containing ECONOR, direct contact with the skin and mucous membranes should be avoided.
Valnemulin should not be administered to rabbits.

Withdrawal periods according to national registrations.
