Product Type
Lopatol is a broad spectrum anthelmintic tablet for dogs.
Description and Composition
Film coated tablets of 2 strengths are available:
LOPATOL 100 contains 100 mg micronised nitroscanate.
LOPATOL 500 contains 500 mg micronised nitroscanate
Properties
Nitroscanateis a broad spectrum anthelmintic which is active against cestodes (tapeworms) and larval and adult stages of nematodes. It is a diphenylether and acts by decreasing the parasites’ cellular energy production.
Indications
LOPATOL is indicated for treatment and control of roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), hookworms (Ancylostoma spp., Uncinaria stenocephala), whipworms (Trichuris vulpis), tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Spirometra erinacei) and Strongyloides stercoralis in dogs
Dosage and Administration
Dosage: LOPATOL is given by single oral administration at a minimum dose rate of 50 mg nitroscanate per kg body weight i.e. 1 x 100 mg tablet per 2 kg body weight and 1 x 500 mg tablet per 10 kg body weight.
Administration: LOPATOL is given with or immediately after ¼ of the daily food, in the morning when the dog`s stomach is empty. The rest of the food can be provided at the evening meal. The tablets can be given either into the mouth of the dog or in the portion of food.
Dogs should be wormed according to the ESCCAP guidelines.
In case of Dipylidium caninum, an effective flea control program should also be started.
Special Precautions and Warnings
LOPATOL tablets are film coated and should not be broken or divided.
