Description
SPY FLY BAIT
Contains Spinosad
Contains pheromone
Is sugar based
Is safe to farm animals
Directions For Use
Application Rate:
The amount of bait to be used should be calculated on the basis of 400 g SPY for 160 m2 of the total floor area of the infested building. This quantity will be placed targeting only the infested areas of the building where flies are resting or feeding.
Timing of Application:
Start baiting early before fly population has built an unacceptable level.
In case there is initially a high fly population use a knockdown space spray to rapidly reduce the adult fly population, remove any manure when possible or consider the use of a larvicide treatment.
Application Techniques:
One or a combination of the following application techniques can be used to deliver SPY into your animal house:
-
Scatter bait:
Scatter SPY evenly in and around animal housing in areas where flies gather and onto surfaces where flies rest such as: windowsills, tops of walls, edges or walkways.
-
Station/tray bait:
Spread SPY evenly onto the station or tray avoiding heaps. Place a minimum of 10 stations or trays per 160 m2 of floor space in areas where flies gather.
-
Hang-board/card bait:
For hang-board /card application, lightly moisten one side with beaten eggs, beer, cola, or starched based wallpaper glue and while still wet, sprinkle SPY onto the card and let it dry to ensure granule adherence. Shake off any non-adhered granules. Hang a minimum of 25 boards/cards per 160 m2 of floor space where flies gather.
-
Paint-on bait:
In a bucket mix 400 g of bait into 0.4 to 0.8 litre of warm water and stir vigorously to dissolve granules completely. Use a paintbrush to apply the dilution per 160 m2 of area where flies gather. These areas can be continuous or made up of separate spot treatments. Due to the yellow dye used in the bait, do not apply to surfaces where yellow discoloration cannot be tolerated.
-
Spray-on bait:
In a bucket mix 300 g of bait into 0.8 litre of warm water and stir vigorously to dissolve granules completely. Do not attempt to mix the granules and water in the spray equipment. Pour the dilution into a pump up compression sprayer only after all the granules have dissolved and then apply per 160 m2 where flies gather. Shake dilution prior to use. Use dilution immediately. Rinse and clean spray equipment immediately after use to avoid dry residues clogging equipment. Prepare only enough for immediate application. Due to the yellow dye used in the bait, do not apply to surfaces where yellow discoloration cannot be tolerated.
Area of the animal house where bait should be placed:
Disregarding the chosen application technique it is important to place the calculated amount of SPY only in infested areas where flies are resting or feeding.
Re-application:
In normal situations SPY will efficiently manage fly populations for 3 to 5 weeks.
Re-apply when granules have become dusty, fouled by dead flies, consumed or removed due to cleaning procedure.
Good Practice For Resistance Management :
Spinosad , the active ingredient in SPY, has a novel mode of action and has shown no cross-resistance with existing chemistries.
Experience has shown that the overuse of effective insecticides can lead to a build up of resistance to virtually any insecticide.
To preserve the effectiveness of SPY as a fly pest control product, the following actions are recommended:
-
Monitor carefully the fly population and target early infestation
-
Do not reduce recommended dose rate (400 g for 160 m2 floor area of the infested building)
-
If sequential treatments are required, rotate SPY with at least two other products having a different active ingredient (SPY, then product A, then product B, then back to SPY, etc.) and, if necessary, a different control method such as space sprays.
-
Do not apply SPY more than 5 times per 12 month period
Integrated Pest Management:
Whenever possible use an Integrated Pest Management Program:
-
Monitor routinely to determine need for control measures
-
Use screens or barriers to prevent insects from migrating
-
Remove manure when ever it is possible
-
Preserve presence of predators in the manure
Disposal of containers
Dispose of the empty container according to local rules.
