Description

Product Type

A vaccine for the prevention of a broad spectrum of respiratory and reproductive diseases of beef and dairy cattle.

Description and Composition

All Vira Shield 6 combinations are ready-to-use formulations that contain antigens of both biotypes, and the 2 most common genotypes, of bovine virus diarrhea (BVD): NCP Type 1, NCP Type 2 and CP Type 1 plus IBR, PI3 and BRSV. All combinations contain the adjuvant Xtend® SP.

Properties

All Vira Shield 6 combinations contain inactivated viruses. It is the first vaccine line to feature three-way BVD coverage.

Xtend SP adjuvant increases the animal’s immune response to the vaccine. It stimulates cell-mediated and humoral immune response, resulting in elevated, long-lasting protection. This adjuvant, in part, explains the 11-month duration of immunity for Type 2 BVD provided by Vira Shield 6 combinations.

Indications

Vira Shield is indicated for the prevention of IBR, BVD, PI3 and BRSV in beef and dairy cattle. Additional diseases are prevented by specific Vira Shield 6 combinations that contain the appropriate antigens.

Dosage and Administration

The initial vaccination involves two 5-mL doses administered four to five weeks apart. Annual revaccination is required. The vaccine is administered subcutaneously in the neck, except for combinations containing H. somnus, which must be administered intramuscularly in the neck.

Vira Shield 6 combinations may be administered to pregnant cows and calves nursing pregnant cows, regardless of vaccination history. They may be given to beef cattle at various reproduction stages, including pre-breeding, pregnancy checking, branding/turnout and pre-weaning and weaning. They are also recommended for dairy cattle at dry-off or close-up.

Special Precautions and Warnings

Consult the product label/monograph specific to your country.

Formulations and Packages

Vira Shield 6 is available in 10-dose and 50-dose bottles.
